Eastleigh Town is excited to be part of the Hampshire-wide Greening Campaign, a community-driven initiative tackling Climate Change and Biodiversity. We are at a pivotal moment in history, facing the urgent challenge of protecting our planet for future generations. Climate change is already reshaping weather patterns and causing extreme events more frequently than ever before. The scale of the problem can feel overwhelming, leaving many wondering what difference they can make.
That’s where the Greening Campaign comes in. With a clear, structured approach, it empowers communities to take meaningful action at a pace that suits them. Whether it’s small everyday changes or larger projects, every step counts. By working together, we can turn concern into action and help create a greener, more sustainable future.

The Five Pillars
The Eastleigh Greening Campaign are bringing 5 pillars of support to our community in Eastleigh. All activities will fall under one or more of the pillars:
Space for Nature -Protecting, restoring and creating habitats in our local community
▪Energy Efficiency –Reducing our energy consumption
▪Health & Wellbeing -Raising awareness of the health impacts of climate change
▪Cycle of the Seed -Growing more of our own food and become more aware of the many benefits of food growing
▪Waste Prevention –How to prevent waste and how to stop us generating waste in the first place
Who can tackle climate change?
The unique part of the Greening Campaign is that it allows anyone to tackle Climate Change and lead their community. You do not need any experience or knowledge in any of the topics. The campaign brings a pathway for you to follow, experts to support you and ideas and tools to use to make it fun and achievable.
If you don’t believe this is possible, just look at how Vegans changed vast sections of our supermarket shelves simply by constantly carrying a message, building numbers and being choosy about how they shop. We can do this with Climate Change. We want everyone to be excited about the environment!
We launched our greening event on the 25 January 25 at The Swan Centre in Eastleigh and had some great conversations with Eastleigh Residents young and older who were interested in the wide ranging work of the Greening Campaign.
As part of the Greening Campaign’s Energy pillar, our officer and a dedicated team of volunteers have been out conducting thermal imaging surveys on local households. This process helps residents identify areas of heat loss in their homes, empowering them to improve energy efficiency. Each household received an email with their thermal images, along with a booklet to help them interpret the results.
To support residents further, we partnered with Bishopstoke Greening to host an Energy Advice Evening on 27.02.25, where we shared simple, practical tips to help reduce energy bills and make homes more energy-efficient.
Eastleigh Big Spring Clean
On the 29th March Eastleigh Town Greening helped out with the Big Spring Clean – we were very please the sun was out and congratulations to Eastleigh Lions who took the prize for the most litter collected in the day.

Easter Monster Trial - FREE activity for the youngsters over Easter
Taking place from Monday 7th to Thursday 17th April in Eastleigh Town Centre.
Collect your trail maps from Wells Place, or you got them from your school, or you can download your trail map here.
Take your completed map back to Well Place Centre to receive a prize – and don’t forget to tell us what school you are from.
Leigh Road Recreation Ground - Flower Beds for Pollinators
Saturday 6 April 2025 saw our fantastic Greening Cycle of the Seed team working hard on the flower beds at Leigh Road Recreation ground preparing for our Pollinator beds.
Join us on the 10 May 2025 to finish the work and enjoy the music and entertainment of the VE Day event.
Plant Your Pants
Plant your Pants – Did you know that 1 teaspoon of topsoil could contain around 10,000 species? Soil is important for growing food, purifying water, reducing the effects of floods and drought and capturing carbon. Planting a pair of cotton pants is an easy and fun way to see just how healthy your soil is. Plant your pants once the soil has warmed up in the Spring or Summer. Mark where you have planted them, then six to 8 weeks later, dig them up again! The organisms in the soil will have fed on the cotton pants and you may not want to wear them again!
Take before and after photos an add them to our Pants Map.
The more your pants have been eaten, the healthier your soil. Maybe plant in different places to see which areas need help – adding organic matter such as compost or leaf mulch or sowing seeds to cover bare soil.
